About eight months ago a group of ladies from Stoke arranged to go to the Theatre Royal and see Swan Lake. The version we were going to see didn’t involve many Tutus… it involved chaps dressed as swans.
I’d been busy at school so couldn’t join the gang for a pre theatre supper and met them at Door 3 of the Stalls. The theatre was heaving. I was early and as a Twitter fan decided to tweet about being at the Theatre Royals.. and I mentioned Matthew Bourne…. only I mentioned the wrong one – the wrong one had a good sense of humour and tweeted back about the Bourne Identify.
Swan Lake was magnificent – the set, the costumes, the music and the sheer physicality of the dancing (it was NOTHING like our dancing the week before). The bodies – these young men and women were perfect specimens. The performance got a standing ovation. As we left and waited for our lift… a man dressed in black walked past… on his phone… it was the real Matthew Bourne!
I enjoyed going to the Theatre so much that I booked myself a ticket to see La Fille Mal Guardee – a far more traditional ballet, for a Saturday matinee performance and two tickets for the Scottish Play on a school night.
Tip: If you have an opportunity and want to see something extraordinary go and see Swan Lake. If you are trying to show off and tweet… try and get the right bloke!
